Venture Capital and Funding Research

There are a lot of places and organizations you can go to in order to apply for small business grants. In setting up your own business, the first requirement is a start-up capital. If you do not have that much on hand, the best you can opt for is a small business grant such as free grants that you would never have to pay back, or other kinds of grants that are similar to loans which require payment with minimal interest. Before you pay anyone to search for venture funding, check out the following.

Who are qualified

Small business grants are usually given to aspiring business owners, new and existing business owners. Most grants are given to non-profit business ventures that can benefit the community or the public. However, many grants are given to profit businesses as well. Those that are eligible include: non-profit organizations, self-help business groups, magazines, or those that have something to do with the arts, such as galleries, publishers, and those businesses that hope to be the sole provider in a particular locality. Your chances of getting a business grant is increased if you have a great proposal, and a government grant may be given to you even if your business is not beneficial to the public at large.
Where to find them

There are many sources where you can find the best small business grants:

1. The Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance. The CFDA is a major provider that provides grants to businesses, despite the decline in funding for health, welfare and social services through the years. Many federal agencies have grant programs such as this. The government's CFDA offers a listing of many government grants and other types of financial assistance that you can avail of.

2. The Federal Register. You can also check with the Federal Register. If you want to be updated with the ever changing federal grants being offered, you should check the Federal Register, the daily government newspaper, the Superintendent of Documents, the lists notices of rules and regulations, as well as the application deadlines for new business grant programs from various federal agencies.

3. FedBizOpps. Another great source of finding grants is through FedBizOpps. Aside from awarding grants, the federal government can also award contracts to various businesses. You can take advantage of this mechanism: FedBizOpps are notified by federal agencies to notify the public about available contract opportunities. FedBizOpps is one good source for finding government grant opportunities worth more than $25,0000.
